A Royal Match The Calypso Chronicles Tyne O'Connell Books Reviews
I love this book. Well two books in one. It's Pulling Princes and Stealing Princes together. They are the first two out of four books in a series set in a posh British girls boarding school. All the girls come from super rich and famous families. Some of them like Honey O'Hare are really spoilt nasty anti-girlfriends but there are really nice ones too. The best thing is all the crazy stuff they get up to like midnight feasts and secret trips to the boys school nearby in the middle of the night. The Royal Prince goes to the boys school and there is a fantastic story which involves the media. The nuns are very cute too.
With the royal wedding a few days ago, it feels like the perfect time to post this review. A normal girl and a fit prince falling in love is the perfect companion for Kate and Prince William's big day. Besides, I was in the mood for a fairytale romance.
It has always been a dream of mine to go to a boarding school, especially in England. Living in a dorm room with other girls, forming life long bonds, no annoying boys, and high level education make it sound like a dream come true. It is not a dream come true ffor Calypso, who is the school's resident "American Freak." Still, even with all the catty girls, the fact that the book takes place at a boarding school is my favorite part of the story.
The romance, however, is a little off for me. The author creates a love triangle with Calypso, Prince Freddie, and Billy. Unfortunately, Calypso has only limited encounters with the two boys. I never really felt like I actually got to know Freddie and Billy very well. They sometimes seemed interchangeable to me , which is weird because one of them is a prince.
One thing I loved were the English terms Tyne O'Connell used. There is a handy cheat sheet in the back filled with the meanings of all these English terms. I didn't find the cheat sheet until I was finished reading, but it was a nice touch. I am starting to feel like I should take a break for afternoon tea.
A Royal Match includes the first two books of the Calypso Chronicles series. I am hoping to read the next two books. Dueling Princes and Dumping Princes so I can get to know Prince Freddie better.

COVER COMMENTS
The red and purple scream royal. Check out the tiara Calypso is holding. That's some serious sparkle.
This includes the first 2 out of 4 books in the Calypso Chronicles which is a series about a girl named Calypso Kelly who is an American teenager attending boarding school in England. She yearns to be popular and gets just that when the heir to the throne, Prince Freddie, takes interest in her. A picture of them kissing ends up in the tabloids which causes big problems for both. Calypso is able to tackle the disaster and hopes that her second term (semester) at school will be better. But Honey O’Hare, her nemesis as well as the reason her picture ended up in the trashy magazines in the first place, has different plans. She turns most of Calypso’s friends against her in the hopes of pushing them, as well as Freddie, away.
I was actually so excited to read this because it sounded really cute and fun from the synopsis, but it just wasn’t. There were so many good ideas in this book and it really had the potential to be great. The plot just seemed to jump from one event to another randomly. I think if each book had been longer this wouldn’t have happened and it wouldn’t have been so confusing.
The characters were also problematic for me. It might just have been me, but they felt ridiculously immature for 14-15 year olds. And obviously I wasn’t expecting them to act like they were 20, but the only thing they ever talked about was pulling boys (the British equivalent of making out). Well, that and their pet bunnies.
Despite how long this is, I finished it rather quickly but only because I couldn’t wait to get it over with. Like I said, it had potential, I just don’t think it was executed well.
Oh dear. Drags. ANNOYING. Glad it's over.
Overall, it's a fast read but honestly the storylines just weren't very engaging because of the tone, i.e. do we really need to read about vomit and diarrhea? And while I liked the concept of the story, getting from point A to point B, just took too long.
Easy quick read and very enjoyable! Great for the beach or the train if you're looking for something that doesn't require much focus.
My daughter does not enjoy reading so I am always on the hunt for a book she will stay with to the end. She really liked this one and actually read both books in the series.
it was an interesting book and definitely more for teens. The Britishisims were very funny and made the book very enjoyable.
