11/15/2014 -- A solid 3.5 Stars

This book resonated with me. What do you want in a relationship? As I got older, if I were asked this question, I could respond with one word; PEACE. I get what this author was trying to do with the title and this story. For the most part, I think she accomplished her mission.

A few things that stood out for me in this one:
1 -- I really enjoyed the characters. We have a bad ass nomad biker who doesn't belong any specific where; Deacon Samson. Doesn't want to. Doesn't put down roots. Has no need to. Until ... until he meets Emma. Emma is this hippie chick who is all laughter and sunshine. She does something to the soul of this man. For five [5] years he seeks her out when he has that yearning for a safe place. She is his sanctuary. Likewise, she depends on him. She never meant to. She was quite alright doing everything all on her own, but how she loved it when he'd stop by on his way to somewhere else. Watching this relationship evolve is the meat of this story. It really isn't any more complicated than that. I really enjoyed it.

2 -- The back story for me is a plus and a minus. A plus because it was pretty simple. This author doesn't give you tons of unnecessary details. She weaves a tale that is pretty simple in its' complexity. Sounds strange, but I can't describe it any better. The simple is nice, but then sometimes you needed a bit more explanation or detail and you don't get it. This is the minus. It was the same for me when reading the first book in this series -- but more negative. This go round the plus outweighs the minus here.

3 -- We get a bit of the MC life. Just enough to keep us interested but not all the grit that puts some off. I'd call this MC light, but in a good way. We also get Beth and Tiny. We see a different side of them than we do in Family Man. Liked them then, but really like them now. I thought Tiny [Joe] was in his own head too much in book #1. We don't see that here. Loved seeing their children in play here too.

4 -- Love the title. I think it very appropriate. Plus, because I read #1 and liked it well enough, I was willing to spend the $3 for this one. I think it is a good price point -- plus, if you have a Kindle Unlimited membership, it can be yours for $0!

I have a few negative points to make:
1 -- If you're looking for bunches of excitement, this won't work for you. If you like a bit of a slow, meandering tale, this will suit you just fine. I enjoyed it. I loved the characters and thought the story played out well enough, but it wasn't chock full of crazy excitement.

2 -- There were editing issues. More as you got closer to the end. Saying this, I think this was a downfall of #1 and this one was much, much better. Still noticeable, but better.

3 -- The time lapses in the book don't always make sense. It moves fast and slow and you have to pay attention to figure out how much time has elapsed. When you do, it may not make sense. It isn't obvious which is probably why it didn't bug me more. Also, it moves very fast towards the end. Like a horse smelling the barn and speeding up to end his day. This book felt a bit like that. Slow and meandering in the beginning and towards the middle and then faster and faster and ...

Overall, a nice book. Great for a cold Saturday. Book, dog, warm blanket and my coffee. Perfect.

5+++ "Wanna take a ride?" Stars

After meeting Samson in A Family Man there was not doubt I needed to know more about him. Thankfully, Sarah Osborne wrote Sanctuary to provide us his incredible story. I loved book one of this series. I LOVED, LOVED book two. This author really honed in on her writing and method of structuring a story. Sanctuary brings all the feels and builds upon the feelings she created in us with the first book beautifully.

Peeling back the many layers of this man as he navigates through his relationship with one very special woman this book, yet again, gives MC romance lovers a different kind of story-telling and structure giving the genre further substance in the reality of the relationships these people are in.

At the very beginning, we see Samson and Emma together while they remember how they came to be. From the first page they are together. It isn't a story of how they met and fell in love, Sanctuary is the story of two distinctly different people meshing together perfectly and how they navigate the circumstances of their lives to facilitate their relationship.

This book will put you through the emotional ringer. There's angst of them understanding what it takes to be together. Darkness falls onto this couple in a traumatic way. But through all of it, through the whole book there's this peace we get from knowing what they mean to each other and how they interact with each other. There were so many times I laughed out loud, so many times I was grinning along with Samson at Emma's sarcasm and vice versa. The camaraderie, the respect the characters have for each other and for those closest to them represent what should be most important to all us mere mortals.

Through Emma and Samson we learn of loyalty, honesty, brotherhood, love, forgiveness, and fear. Complex concepts for most that only FCP MC romance authors truly make simple. Sarah Osborne is no exception as her writing exquisitely showcases a beautiful love story. Told in 3rd person, we feel the pain and sorry, the joy and peace through these characters implicitly. Tiny and Emma develop a friendship, even deeper than that, an unbreakable bond that will leave you breathless. Tiny once again proves why he's the family man while Samson learns what it takes to become one. After witnessing his relationship with Beth in A Family Man the satisfaction to see the momentous shift in him with Emma can hardly be explained.

Samson and Emma are two incredibly strong characters. Ones who you will want to emulate. They bring the best out in each other. Emma especially brings the best out of Samson. She has the ability to bewitch with her serene attitude and giving nature, Samson's "little witch". And Tiny too, in a way Tiny thought he'd never have again. The strength of them all, of their brotherhood, of their family remains intact and impenetrable as they grow. The new secondary characters we meet add much to the story as well. Felix, Emma's friend. And Spike (crossing my fingers Spike gets a story) with his total bad assery yet tender and comedic relief.

The substance of this book is in the journey. Layers and layers of depth provide so much to the reader. There's no explicit sex, not even explicit violence. It's a fade-to-black kind of way of projecting the events but it is so effective. You feel it ALL as the reader in a major way. In a way that gives you real, honest feelings and reactions.

Excellent writing. Excellent story telling. Excellent characters, main and secondary. The pain just as exquisite as the peace. Sarah Osborne gave me a reading sanctuary for a few days as I was absorbed in this story. Reading it as if I were living in her world.

The Freaks MC series cannot be missed for MC romance lovers. I highly recommend A Family Man first and then no doubt urge you to read Sanctuary immediately following.

Authors of The Freak Circle Press have set the bar incredibly high in this genre.
